Celebrate MLK day with “Books not Bars”

***12th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Conference***

Saturday, January 16, 2010 10am-5pm (registration beginning 9:30am)
Whatcom Community College, Syre Center

Bellingham Books to Prisoners will be featured as The Whatcom Human Rights Task Force and Whatcom Community College present the MLK Human Rights Conference! The theme of this year’s conference will be, “Books not Bars: Education, the Media and America’s Prison System,” so we are especially honored to be involved.

BTP will be making an on-stage presentation during the 1pm Afternoon Keynote Address–don’t miss it!

We will also be at the conference all day with information about BTP–visitors will have the chance to read actual prisoner letters to get a sense of what we do and why we do it. We will be accepting donations for postage, and selling our great t-shirts as a fundraiser. The packages of books can’t get out the door without your help!

In addition, there will be the opportunity to buy a dictionary (or many!) for a prisoner. Dictionaries are, by far, our most highly requested item, and $6 is a great bargain for a powerful tool of education and self-improvement.

The conference is free and open to all. It will be held on the Whatcom Community College Campus at the Syre Center. There will be over 20 workshops and the MLK Youth Summit. Free parking and light refreshments.

Please consider dropping by and checking out the conference–and Bellingham Books to Prisoners!
